The city of Inglewood received federal funds to administer a Rent Relief Program to assist renters behind on rent due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and detail only disbursing $256,000 of the $1.8 million received to assist 73 total applicants.
The staff report details that many of the landlords contacted refused the assistance and others are waiting for funds under Housing is Key.
The report is only “receive and file” however the staff report doesn’t detail how much has been spent on administration costs or what the balance is of the federal funds received. More importantly, what happens if they don’t disburse all funds?
HUD guidelines allowed for 20% to be used for administrative costs. The City must expend 80% of the funds by September 30, 2023.
The City has a documented history of misspending HUD funds which typically result in the city being made to reimburse HUD for unallowed activities.
