Compton Sheriff’s Brief Compton Council
COMPTON – On June 14, the Compton City Council addressed the concerns of residents regarding the recent illegal street takeovers impacting the City of Compton and communities across Los Angeles County. The City has been in close coordination with the Compton Sheriff’s Department to support their efforts to combat this issue.
“I am working with my fellow Councilmembers and City staff to ensure that all public safety cameras located at each intersection are working,” said Mayor Emma Sharif. “The safety of our residents and community is our top priority. I will be reaching out to cities across the region to implement a task force aimed at putting a halt to these illegal activities that are a public safety issue in our communities.”
During the City Council meeting, Deputy Craig Walker with the Compton Sheriff’s Department, at the request of the City Council, provide an update by sharing that the “Sheriff’s Department is working closely with surrounding jurisdictions, jurisdictions that have task forces, and the District Attorney’s office to help prosecute individuals involved in the illegal street takeovers. As we come across various obstacles, we need to have different strategies to combat them.”

Too little, too late. Councilman Bowers recommended more stringent new laws in Compton last August 2021. The administration and City Attorney sat on his request until the issue increased and became out of control and now bit them in the butt with now six lives lost in the city in the last year to street racing. This is the state of poli-tricks in Compton, focused on development and political intrigue leaving public safety and services for residents noting the agenda. More about stealing and keeping power than working on important issues so save the after-the-fact concern and grandstanding.
