SOUTH GATE – An approximately 40-year-old man was found fatally shot in the Los Angeles River in South Gate Friday.
Officers from the South Gate Police Department responded to the bike path along the river just after 5:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of Firestone Boulevard, near the Long Beach (710) Freeway, where they found the victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, said Deputy Raquel Utley of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
There is no suspect or suspect vehicle description available.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is assisting the South Gate Police Department in its investigation of the man’s death.
