Letter to the Editor: There’s a mental health house coming to my South LA neighborhood

Hello There,

We’re with W. 76th Street Block (between 10th & 8th Ave) in Los Angeles, Ca. 90043 and beyond are in desperate need of your help. We’ve learned that there is a “Mental Psych Health” home opening up right in the middle of our block at 3136 W. 76th Street and we the neighbors are very concerned for so many reasons.

The majority residents of 76th Street have owned our homes for decades and we have worked long, hard and diligently to make our neighborhood a safe place for our families, children and now our grands. Now some business woman who owns 5 of these facilities wants to come along and destroy what we’ve built, without a care or concern for any of us residents. This is a business for her.

Well this is totally not acceptable by any means. First and foremost, we were NEVER informed by anyone that this was going to happen or even given an opportunity to speak about it. Psych patients can and will get out of control easily. Our biggest fear is walking out our front or back doors and being confronted by them or finding them in our yards and of course the worst case, being viciously attacked; And with our crazy work schedules some of us leave early in the morning when it’s still dark out and return the same.

We are NOT COMFORTABLE with this situation at all.

We reached out to our Councilman person Marqueece Harris-Dawson on several occasions and NOTHING since voting him in.   And of course, no response to our constant request for help. OUR CONCERNS ARE VALID AND OUR VOICES MATTER!

WE NEED YOUR HELP! 

We understand that someone has to help these patients/people. All we are saying is to please find a commercial/industrial area to do so not in our neighborhood please. There are so many vacant buildings in Los Angeles to do so. Why jeopardize us???!!!

WE DESERVE TO LIVE OUR LIVES IN PEACE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. IT’S OUR RIGHT AND IT’S NOT MUCH TO ASK!
