LYNWOOD – Supervisor Janice Hahn sponsored a gun buyback event in Lynwood today. The event was in conjunction with Sheriff Alex Villanueva, the Sheriff’s department, LASD Community Advisory Council, and Transit Bureau Services.
The event removed more than 300 weapons off the street in exchange for gift cards made available through Hahn’s office.
“I want to thank the media for covering this event, and ensuring we got the word out,” said Hahn.
She remarked there were also billboards erected of her and the Sheriff to promote the event.

Sheriff Villanueva thanked the Supervisor for hosting the event while remarking the number of guns being brought in indicated the community was vested in getting guns off the streets.
“We support the Second Amendment, but this is an opportunity to get rid of excess firearms that could be potentially a threat to the community, and do so in a safe manner.”

It was the first buyback that LASD has hosted since 2018.
Members from the Lynwood city council were also on hand and hailed the event as successful.
