INGLEWOOD – Inglewood Unified School District County Administrator Dr. Erika Torres has released a letter co-written by Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts asking for the emergency loan issued to IUSD be forgiven in the upcoming state budget.
The letter stops short of asking for Warren Lane Elementary School to remain open, which was the driving factor in the mayor’s letter.
Mayor Butts is up for re-election in November, and is pulling out all the stops to ensure voters continue to elect him. His desire is to remain mayor for another 12 years, despite multiple women, including the City’s treasurer Wanda Brown, who have accused the mayor of misappropriating taxpayer funds, sexual harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination.
In spite of this letter, if you’re an Inglewood resident, is this enough to keep him as our mayor?
Residents are currently gearing up to run for the four IUSD advisory board seats up for re-election in November. Two incumbents, Naomi Hammonds and Ernest Castillo were appointed by Torres, while the others struggle to raise funds. One candidate, Brandon Myers, hasn’t raised a single dollar. Carliss McGhee will likely turn to her sorority and influential residents in Ladera to support her.
Inglewood deserves better and this letter should’ve been penned long before the school closure became a hot button topic that political candidates have seized upon for free publicity.
