LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Maxine Waters has endorsed Jan Perry’s campaign to become the next member of the U.S. House of Representatives for District 37, the seat vacated by Rep. Karen Bass. Waters is considered by many to be one of the most effective and influential women in American politics. She has a proven track record as a fearless and outspoken advocate for women, children, people of color and the poor.
“Our nation is at a crossroads, and we need experienced and tenacious leaders to fight the battles to preserve our democracy, protect a women’s right to choose and to tackle the issues of affordable housing and economic recovery from the pandemic,” said Congresswoman Waters. “I have examined all of the candidates, and Jan Perry is the woman I want fighting alongside me in these battles, she’s honest, hardworking and understands how to make government work for the people,” she continued.
Congresswoman Waters is the Chair of the House Financial Service Committee and is universally respected for her work on behalf of the poor, minority and disenfranchised neighborhoods. Her endorsement has a tremendous sway in those communities.

Perry currently serves as the executive director for two non-profits that address future infrastructure, economic development, and environmental challenges and support agencies that serve Los Angeles’ unhoused population. From July 2013 to December 2018, she served as the general manager of the City of Los Angeles’ Economic and Workforce Development Department. During her tenure, the department enrolled 91,000 people in its training and placement programs.
