A 29 year-old man was shot by his stepfather in Compton and Friday sheriff’s investigators are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Evan Stewart died at the scene, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported.
Deputies from the Compton Sheriff’s Station were called at 8:05 p.m. Thursday to the 14900 block of South Clymar Avenue near Roy Campanella Park where they found a man with gunshot wounds in the street in front of a home, said Deputy Miguel Meza of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Homicide investigators learned that the man had been involved in an altercation at a residence believed to be his stepfather’s and his mother’s, Meza said. During the altercation, the stepfather allegedly shot the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 66-year-old stepfather surrendered to deputies upon their arrival and is cooperating with the investigation.
The weapon used in the shooting was recovered at the scene and there is no additional information available at this time.
