Attached you find a letter of response from the principal of Woodworth-Monroe. The letter was distributed by the principal after your article “Does This Sound Fishy?” was published.
Why were the classes still labeled as science classes and health classes until the 2 Urban Girls exposed it? It is suspicious that now the names of the classes have been changed to Drama and Robotics E-Sports and these name changes were officially dated back to the beginning of the school year in August when there was a permanent Science teacher? In essence, the credentialed Science teacher never existed.
Why not change the name of the health classes since health is an elective? However, since Science is one of the “core academic subjects,” it is a required class. Note that one Science class was an honors class.
It is the responsibility of the district and the Los Angeles County Office of Education to do their due diligence to secure a credentialed teacher even if they must make an appeal to recruit a retired science teacher to fill the slot. Filling the slot with an elective teacher just coming off an administrative leave of absence is unacceptable.
