Dear 2UrbanGirls,
Does This Sound Fishy?
Woodworth-Monroe had a vacancy in their Science Department. The March 9, 2022, Board Agenda listed a teacher transfer from Morningside High School to Woodworth-Monroe. It does not list the subject to be taught which is Science . Usually, the subject is listed on the Board Agenda. According to the Woodworth-Monroe Master Schedule, the classes are listed as three Health classes, a seventh grade Life Science Honors class, and a seventh grade Life Science class; however, the teacher that was transferred from Morningside High School with a Career Technical Education credential has been assigned to teach Science and Health.
Students in his classes have complained to their parents, teachers, and staff that they are not being taught Science or Health at all. They are being taught what the teacher is credentialed to teach: gaming and theater instead, although Science and Health are listed on the Master Schedule. The students are being deprived of one of their core classes, Science. Doesn’t this violate policies set forth by the Commission on Teaching Credentialing? Why call the classes Science or Health when in fact neither is being taught? How did Human Resources and the Woodworth-Monroe administration let this to happen? Don’t they check for the proper credentials? Is this fraudulent? Does this sound fishy?

Far too often parents don’t know who to complain to and when they do they are told they shouldn’t question decisions made by the school administration. It is as if administration can keep their wrong decisions hidden under the carpet no one will be expected to correct the situation…….(see Math and English proficiency scores ).
Unfortunately this is not the first, an isolated, or an unusual occurrence- this is probably much more common than most want to know.
This type of disregard for what students should be learning is much more often the reason for declining enrollment than the typical excuse of low birth rate.
Musical classrooms without regard to credentials has been norm for many years.
This is a subtle way to achieve declining enrollment . Without needed classes parents take their students elsewhere and the school land can be sold to the billionaires who contribute to election campaigns
When parents share and other parents become aware accountability begins to be reflected at election time……
Making PTA meetings unable to occur has been the hallmark of keeping parents unable to share and organize to improve the student experience.
Perhaps that press conference re the track was supposed to distract parents from educational expectations.
