Subject: Change in Student Support and HR
March 29, 2022Dear Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) Staff,
Over the next few weeks, there will be several transitions in our District Office administration and support team. IUSD is working closely with each respective department to ensure that all duties and responsibilities are transitioned smoothly.
In an effort to reduce District administrative costs, the Chief Operating Officer position will be eliminated. Our District would like to thank Norberto Perez for his leadership, commitment, and hard work as the Chief Operating Officer for the last two years. Starting April 1, 2022, Mr. Perez will serve as interim Director of Student Services under the direction of our Interim Chief Human Resources Officer, Dr. Nick Stephany. IUSD appreciates Mr. Perez’s support in this transition, as we will go through the process of recruitment and hiring for the new Director of Student Services.
With the departure of Tiffany Egan from Human Resources, the Executive Director of Human Resources and Risk Management position will be filled on an interim basis by Shelly Ebiner, the current Director of Employee Relations and Policy Management. Ms. Ebiner will work diligently with members of the Human Resources team to ensure a smooth transition and provide the best possible service in Human Resources.
As part of the LACOE support team, Megan Atkins will begin to work with both the Human Resources and Student Services Departments to streamline respective procedures and protocols, and address FCMAT standards and evidence collection moving forward. Ms. Atkins has been an invaluable support to Educational Services, particularly in Special Education and we look forward to her leadership support with Human Resources and Student Services.
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as our District makes these transitions.
#WeAreInglewoodUnified
Sincerely,
Erika F. Torres, Ed.D., MSW , County Administrator
How many residents regret pledging their property taxes towards winding down our school district?

HMMM read carefully Torres uses the word transition not elimination,,,
So we are to believe the elimination of the one COO position, all on its own, will save significant money??
Historically when someone was promoted up to a greater salary and then downsized down they kept the big salary. So moving Perez across the parking lot may not impact the payroll significantly except by placing the expense in a different column.
This letter seems to suggest musical chairs rather than cost reduction. It is almost amusing that we are told they will try to streamline procedures and have smooth transitions as opposed to making complicated procedures and unpleasant transitions.
Company’s throughout America have functional Human Resource Departments this is NOT rocket science.
