HARBOR CITY – A woman who was fatally stabbed at a Harbor City motel being used as transitional housing for the homeless was identified Thursday, and the investigation was continuing into her death.
Julee Casanova, 59, of Harbor City, died at the scene of the crime, which occurred about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday at a motel in the 800 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies went to the location on a domestic violence call, the sheriff’s department reported.
“They arrived and located the victim … suffering from stab wounds to the upper torso,” a sheriff’s department statement said. “A male … approximately 60 years old, who is believed to be the suspect was detained by deputies.”
Authorities have not released the man’s name or information on his relationship with the woman.
The motel is one of many utilized in recent years as transitional housing for the homeless under the state’s Project Homekey.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may also use the website lacrimestoppers.org.

Julee was my sister as well as a mother, a daughter, and a friend. Yes…she struggled throughout life but everyone should know she was getting her life back on track and was doing good. The animal that murdered her was not her boyfriend; thus, NOT domestic violence as misreported by the media. In fact, that is why he murdered her…because she told him she was focusing on herself and did not want a relationship. She knew this animal for a total of 3 weeks.
The public needs to know the flawed nature of these programs to get individuals off the street. There is no screening process, meaning sexual predators, violent offenders, and so forth can be placed in a room adjacent to someone on the street who merely was there due to falling on hard times. They claim to have security; however, the security I saw was a tiny frail-looking young man who has no means to protect. No pepper spray, mace, taser…absolutely nothing.
Although the intent of these programs is correct, how it has been operationalized needs to be exposed to drive change. A first step is to ensure men and women are not housed at the same facility. Further, they need security that understands and has the ability to respond in a way that will deescalate violence. These programs receive a substantial amount of money from the state, which we must force accountability.
Coming to a motel/hotel near you!
Kudos to 2Urban Girls from including in the report story, the fact the county is both directly and indirectly responsible for this heinous act. Ratting out local, utterly failed “leadership” is something the butt kissing Los Angeles media that covers for Liberal nitwit politicians has ubiquitously failed to do!
This brutal murder more specifically, took place at a Motel 6 located at 820 West Sepulveda Blvd in Harbor City. This location was one of about eight Motel 6’s LA County purchased in order to house our “homeless neighbors” as the LA County Board of Supervisors refers to them.
If the victim has any family of sound mind and the means, I’d retain a Ben Crump type on this case, and sue the snot out of Janice Hahn and the rest of the county/city nincompoops who come up with these horribly stupid ideas that “sound good” but clearly NEVER WORK!
Her name was Julee Casanova. This was my mother. This was not a domestic violence issue. She reported him several times and kept asking for help. The system failed her.
