Inglewood Unified School District is meeting monthly to consolidate schools as outlined under AB 1840. The bill allows schools like IUSD, and Oakland Unified, who have an emergency loan, to consolidate schools, close others, and receive $10 million in return.
The details are located in the most recent FCMAT report published on the school districts website.
Oakland residents aren’t sitting back complaining on Facebook, or asking what the mayor is doing, they are fighting for the children. Fighting for the teachers. FIghting for the community, and most importantly fighting for the money being pledged towards the district.
Inglewood residents have pledged damn near a billion dollars in school bonds on our schools and don’t have shit to show for it. Property owners continue to leverage their property tax payments for schools they don’t want to send their children to.
Back in the day, property value was directly tied to the strength of its school district. In Inglewood, our property value is tied to SoFi Stadium, and the Metro line.
Dr. Erika Torres continues to decimate lives by laying off employees, and discouraging children from attending. This is verified by the countless letters from employees, posted on this site, and the continued drop in enrollment.
Torres went so far as obtaining a temporary restraining order on a member of the community that she had never seen or spoken to. How did she do that? Well it’s believed the judge who initially awarded it to her was friends with Bernadette Lucas because she had to recuse herself from the case.
According to court transcripts, Torres was forced to admit she personally called Inglewood Chief Mark Fronterotta to get a restraining order because she felt threatened over posters. Case dismissed.
Oh, and Lucas left her employment in the district soon thereafter.
was just reading a thread about schools closing down in Oakland. I don’t want to rt it, because I don’t want to expose the poster to possible harassment. Ultimately, we need to pay teachers more and NOT permanently close public schools to make room for gentrifiers.

SCHOOL CLOSURES
The district aims to close Warren Lane, located in Morningside Park, and have already selected Harridge Developers to put who knows what there. Did we know there was a process to select a developer?
[#FunFact: Harridge was ran out of LA by Damien Goodman and our friends over at Downtown Crenshaw, and they got their comeuppance in Inglewood when residents forced them to scale down the project going up across from St. Mary’s. They would eventually sell the property.]
Worthington is also on the chopping block.
Residents and activists on the other side of Prairie were against a hotel that is proposed at the intersection of 111th and Prairie. They complained about the hotels ingress/egress being on 111th which is a path routinely taken by families to get to Worthington.
If the school is closed, no more complaints, right?
We have FIVE members we elect to a pseudo “board” who do nothing but photo ops instead of keeping the public in the loop. Maybe that’s why they there.
It is becoming crystal clear there is NO plan to save the district, and our elected officials have been “selected” for us to ensure we don’t revolt and rage against the machine.
We continue to wait for the district to respond to records request of details surrounding the “censure” of school board advisory members.
Oakland residents are about to go on a HUNGER STRIKE to protest what’s going on in the schools.
What are we gonna do Inglewood?

Now that the stadium has been built and the Super Bowl is past tense, let’s see what benefits are being handed to the residents and new businesses. If people are in fact moving here to Inglewood, yes the iusd should be priority. Where is the fight for the city to get iusd back from under the state control.this pints back to your elected officials.
Inglewood residents get a grip sitting on our rears, sucking on our thumbs saying we can’t do nothing about this is no longer an option!!!
We not only should, or can WE MUST !!! Take the time to tell TORRES and her bosses NO MORE!
How timely, we can not call the didn’t check with us before voting for this Autumn Burke she resigned!
No one I know heard from Steve Bradford or Kamlager Dove before they voted that our schools could be sold!! Has anyone wondered why Auntie Maxey’s silence is so Deafening ?
Why do we let others do to us and keep our mouths shut !!!!
If these schools are sold ask yourself with all the money donated by developers to James Butts campaign which one do you think will be the first developer to put up a muti- story mixed use mega complex on the school sites.
And once the new people move in to the mega complexes and they need schools for their children who do you think will have to pay for the new schools which will need different land requiring eminent domain -eliminating more single family homes, duplexes or small apartment buildings ! Who do you think will have to pay for those new schools Yep, the home owners who are left will get greater tax bills
Then surprise renters when the current small complex owners have to sell because they can’t afford the new taxes, and the increased repair costs because they can not raise your rent those new owners won’t be reducing rent! Chances are your apartment will become the new modern mega complexes that everyone will say oh so nice and new, but there won’t be enough set aside units for low-mod income to accommodate the displaced so…maybe you should consider those Big 5 tent sales or plan now for your move.
How long have some of us been saying “be careful who you vote for” ?
Isadore Hall gave us the revolting Supergraphics (usually alcohol advertisements), and opened the door for the God awful digital non-stop billboards —-so wonder of wonder James Butts who got the “WOW” campaign donation had “his team”approve 22 of those revolting signs (never mind the energy guzzling).
Bradford and Kamlagerr-Dove voted for AB 1840 as if the state couldn’t wait for us to pay for the emergency loan – really look how they have been spending your money, they can’t wait? It isn’t as if the state is going broke- remember CALIFORNIA is eighth largest economy in the world, and DOESN’T JAMES BUTTS keep telling us the Shiny new football cathedral is the answer to our economical woes?
WE HAVE FAILED TO HOLD ANY OF OUR ELECTED ACCOUNTABLE!!
NOW WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO LOUDLY SAY :
NO MORE -TEACH OUR KIDS IN OUR SCHOOLS !!
STOP the systematic destruction of our community!
SHOW UP and say NO MORE THIS 5- 0 Voting and non Transparency HAS GOT TO STOP!
Call your neighbors Share the documents and stop trusting those who have already shown us that they don’t care about our kids or us!
Remember Dionne Faulk did nothing to stop the (formerly Daniel Freeman) now Warren Lane School from closing it was NEIGHBORS who called the press and bought some time. Why would anyone vote for a person with that deceptive behavior to become a council member?
How about we start working to help our students have great futures, instead throwing money at developers and contractors !!!!
Let’s make our own photo opportunities – packed school board meetings, community (not elected) press conferences LETTING OUR WILL BE KNOWN ——LET’S RECLAIM OUR CITY……
Did you notice all the money spent this weekend on the Super Bowl –
do the math average $6,000.00 per seat x 100,000 seats= $ 6,000,000,000.00 Plus t-shirts/ food/ beer sales plus parking fees , and the city will be only receive – $. 25,000,000.00 for the whole year……yes that leaves a whole lot of zeros for the billionaires and ………somehow clearing the homeless from camera view and selling our schools is what our elected want for our future……
We need different electeds !!
