Long-time Inglewood resident Rick Garzon has reason to celebrate. He is preparing to open a second art gallery on the site of Hollywood Park and within steps of SoFi Stadium.
“At the time, there was a clear void of creative spaces in our neighborhood for artists of color. I wanted to create and sustain the kind of visible space that South Central LA would be proud of.
Our artists of color labor to unearth their personal stories as well as our collective memory. In doing so, we present a vision that belongs to us and reclaims our history and storylines. I hope to inspire and propel even more creative spaces to open up in our communities.”

He opened the doors to Residency Art in 2016 in a storefront on Queen Street between Locust and Market and hasn’t looked back. His goal was to showcase Black art which isn’t typically marketed to minorities.
“Some galleries in Mid-city, Hollywood, Culver City, they go out of their way to show Black and brown stories, but do they market towards the Black and brown communities to come see the show?That was my thing, making sure our community saw our artwork.”
His gallery has featured artists Lorenzo Baker, Karla Ekatherine Canseco, and Pablo Cristi, to name a few.
