Inglewood Unified County Administrator Dr. Erika Torres sent out a late night email alerting parents, staff, and faculty about the arrest of one of its former teachers.
The teacher has been identified as Charles Wright, 56.
He was linked through his DNA and fingerprint left at the scene of the crime where a woman’s body was found dumped in a parking stall at a Gardena apartment.
His victim was 21-year-old Pertina Epps, who was determined to be strangled. Authorities believe the two didn’t know each other.
Her body was found in Gardena April 26, 2005 around 1 p.m in the 2700 block of West 141st Pl.
When her death was first reported, it was noted Epps moved back to Gardena, from San Diego, the day prior.
Wright was arrested Jan. 27 and bail was set at $1 million. He bonded out the same day.
Wright taught history and math at multiple schools including Monroe Middle School, and Leuzinger High School. He was also a successful basketball coach.
Wright is due back in court June 28.
