LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Police Department began January 30, 1888 and in its 134 year existence a Black female officer has NEVER been promoted. Yes, the department has never promoted a Black woman which is pathetic given Blacks make up 13% of the population and have three Black people on the city council.
Congratulations Nikki Alexander!!! Her promotion ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Long Beach Civic Center.
Alexander was the tenth Black female to complete patrol training in 2003 and has worked patrol, youth services, missing persons and serves as the most senior Black female officer. She currently works as a child abuse detective.

My question is why didn’t former Long Beach Chief Robert Luna promote her when he had the opportunity?
For comparison, LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva answered the call in Carson and Compton by promoting two Black deputies to Captain to lead their stations.
