LOS ANGELES – The daughter of Inglewood Mayor James Butts is back in court today for charges stemming from an April 2016 attack on her landlord.
It was reported in 2019 that Ashley Melissa Butts plead guilty to the charges and faced sentencing and was due to be sentenced in November of that year.
It remains unclear how the jury deadlocked after the guilty plea.
A trial-readiness conference is scheduled today in a Downtown LA courtroom.
She is charged with conspiracy and assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Her co-defendant Israel Rios is also charged.
Butts and Rios, 40, allegedly exchanged text messages shortly before another man, who has not been identified, assaulted the victim with a metal bat, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Rios, who is awaiting trial, faces up to 22 years in state prison if convicted as charged.
