NORTH HOLLYWOOD – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Los Angeles city vehicle, authorities said Wednesday. The driver has been identified as Joseph Avalos, the director of the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on the northbound Hollywood (170) Freeway at Victory Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.
Information was not immediately available on the identity of the pedestrian, who died at the scene.
The front end of the city vehicle sustained severe damage in the crash. One person was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition.
The vehicle was operated by a Los Angeles city employee, who also serves as a reserved officer with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The crash closed three lanes of the freeway for over six hours.
Avalos has not been charged.
