Dear 2Urbangirls,
I swear Inglewood Mayor James Butts is a gift that keeps on giving, and right on cue when all else fails, the Mayor with brazen abandon and recklessness will yield to his often self-serving, selfish political motives at the expense of others. This time he is using the closure of a neighborhood school to woo voters, all while lying in their face.
I hate to tell you again and for the sake of transparency, if I can defend you in a sense from the confusion this site may have caused in the initial report about comments attributed to the Mayor, some could argue that it was hastily arranged to score political points in the hotbed issue that has become IUSD.
Or are we to believe George Dotson was getting bored with his “paper shredding” events and step out of his comfort zone, and in a “Joe Biden” like fashion inserted himself, and the Mayor into a fight they always tend to shy away from.
For the mayor to allege he and Dr. Torres had brokered a deal to save the school District, and they would be jointly submitting a letter to the Governor not only to set aside IUSD Debt, but to allocate additional funds under a stipend attributed to the rise in property values. Huh? Is he asking for more taxpayer money be put into the schools, in excess of the nearly $500 million already pledged under school repair bonds?
Excuse me did I miss something? Why do his newfound ideas involving taxing the residents as opposed to the billionaires?
How much has Inglewood Unified reaped in development fees from the new housing, NFL Stadium, and incoming Intuit Dome?
Can anyone show me anything that shown the Mayor’s involvement or at least keen or plausible or passable interest in Inglewood Unified School District matters until now? All we see is him strategically placing his chess pawns (Alex Padilla, Dexter Hall, Odest Riley) on committees that made the first school closure suggestions over 5 years ago under a previously appointed administrator. Does Butts think we aren’t paying attention?
Well there’s quite a few reasons we can debate about, and maybe in another letter I’ll explain that, but let’s just say this, the Mayor inserting himself in the midst of a contentious debate and misrepresenting truths and a common bond and or allegiance with IUSD School Administrator Dr. Erika Torres wasn’t only reckless and irresponsible but again shines a light on the lengths Butts will go to stay in power.
Governor Gavin Newsom and State Superintendent Tony Thurman need to explores the dysfunction in the district that was leftover from his predecessor Jerry Brown.
Acknowledge the role he State played as a complicit contributor to IUSD’s current and ongoing state of dysfunction, which can only be surmised to the state wanted the NFL in Inglewood and with the many vacant buildings and land owned by the Inglewood Housing Authority not being developed, they need somewhere to build the housing that they aren’t.
The late Gil Mathieu spoke about this as often as he could.
The mayor is leveraging his interaction with the public, via Robert Pullen-Miles campaign, the Warren Lane closure, to appear concerned and in front of the voters every chance he gets. Why do you think the city is planning a jazz festival, despite COVID, and they are still locking the public out of City Hall and Council Chambers under the guise it’s not safe.
Newsom is playing along by keeping these emergency powers in affect to takeaway our rights. Newsom is only seen in South LA / Inglewood when he wants something. YOUR VOTE!
He was all in the videos and photos at Faithful Central trying to stave off a recall, and could have made some promises he knew he couldn’t keep. One being wiping out the emergency loan debt, as long as it covered all districts with them, not just one school district over the other.
Has it not dawned on you that the sudden interest in Inglewood, by the folks in Oakland wasn’t a “red flag”? This is coordinated to keep do nothing politicians in power.
Yes, 2UrbanGirls you are correct, the natives are restless and Butts ongoing tenure as Mayor of Inglewood for the first time is truly in jeopardy.
2urbangirls how will this IUSD madness end? To be honest with you it just got started as it appears that it has quietly in ” October” surprise like manner has emerged to become more than likely the deciding factor in the California State 62nd Assembly race to replace former State Assemblywoman Autumn Burke.
Where is the proposed “frontrunner” Tina McKinnor? We haven’t heard publicly from her since she was on ABC7 news cycle parading around as a “parent” in the district, and not the candidate she is.
Where is she on absolving the debt? Authoring legislation that encourages low classrooms sizes to better educate children, especially those with special needs?
What the mayor should have been doing, instead of lying to the public the other night, technically should have took place before the shovel hit the dirt over at 1050 S. Prairie.
The “smart” people in City Hall should have prepared to reap the financial benefits BEFORE the approval, through a robust Community Benefits package that included the district. Keep in mind, the Hollywood Park site was initially supposed to have land set aside for Inglewood Unified.
Did it magically become those four acres of parks the mayor boasts about?
Sorry this is so long, but this hustle has been over a decade in the making, and the jig is now up!

There you go again Marvin…..trying your hardest to bring about awareness.
Some of the public is thrilled that 2 UrbanGirls and you bring out these truths that some have worked so hard to deny the public!!!!
Unfortunately there are those Billionaires who buy so many political wanna bees it is hard to keep track of them all.
Thank you for your dedication to provide the public ( and hopefully the FBI is paying attention also) with the opportunity to connect the dots and see the reality of the corruption and disregard for the community that so many of our elected so desperately cling to in their pursuit of personal riches and fame.
