Due to redistricting Rep. Nanette Barragan will no longer serve Compton residents. The new district, CA-43, will now be represented by Rep. Maxine Waters, and could lead to her being challenged by a popular candidate.
CA-43 will now cover Compton after new congressional lines were drawn. This places Waters in the direct path of former Compton Mayor Aja Brown, whose previous Congressional campaign was cut short when she became pregnant.
Brown has not strayed from Compton since her abrupt announcement to not seek a third mayoral term last year.
She became the spokesperson for the Compton Pledge, which brought her nationwide attention for what was called, at the time, the “nation’s largest” monthly allotment of $800 per recipient.
On the other hand, Waters must be concerned as a bizarre incident took place last week in South LA.
Apparently some mysterious, unseen flyer circulated around the community about a housing related “giveaway”. Somehow, right on cue, Waters happens to be on Imperial and Normandie, with ABC 7 in tow, to get out the car to “see” what was going on?
She was camera ready in a powder blue leisure suit.
At a recent ribbon cutting ceremony, at the Girl Scouts Innovation Center last week in Inglewood, days before she showed up in South LA, Waters didn’t personally appear for the event, she sent video remarks.
Brown has not given any indication she is going to run, however, she would make a far better challenger for Waters than that trainwreck Omar Navarro.
Sometimes politicians get too comfortable with doing the bare minimum for our community, while others leverage their platforms to bring money, no-strings attached, to theirs.
The new district would continue to cover areas already in Waters back pocket: Athens, South LA, and Inglewood, but Compton would definitely contribute towards Brown, however, Barragan and Waters did a lot of work together which could swing Latino voters her way.
Inglewood residents are very loyal to Waters, however, a once coveted endorsement from Mayor Butts would bring pause to any female candidates campaign who secures an endorsement from a man with a long list of women alleging harassment, retaliation, and stalking from him.
Do you think Brown will run?
