Inglewood Mayor James Butts has taxpayers on the hook for thousands of dollars of legal fees for lawsuits attached to his ego and broken heart. It is unclear if another lawsuit will follow, after Butts showed up unannounced to a local business with Inglewood Police Department as backup.
Mayor Butts is enabled by the City Council, City Manager Artie Fields, Police Chief Mark Fronterotta, and possibly the District Attorney’s office, as he continues to abuse city resources at the taxpayers expense, and possibly the public’s safety.
Butts most recent escapade involved a new motorcycle repair business which opened Feb. 19.
The business held a grand opening, which was allegedly coordinated with the mayor’s ex-aide Melanie McDade, and a local event planner.
Unbeknownst to the owners and attendees, Butts was headed there, with Inglewood police cars arriving shortly thereafter.
The mayor admits to arriving on the scene, but not getting out of the car. Instead of showing good will to a new business in the City, he was alleged to be there demanding answers surrounding McDade’s alleged involvement.
These owners didn’t get the same warm and fuzzy welcome the mayor bestowed on Snoop Dogg when he was present for his grand opening.
They received a citation for an “unpermitted” event.
IPD officers were outraged that they were pulled from patrol to handle the mayor’s personal whims.
It is not uncommon for elected officials to abuse their power over their police department.
Former IPD Cpt. David Salcedo left the City, for greener pastures with the city of Baldwin Park. Insiders say he left on some Half Baked sh*t.
After arriving, he alleged members of the Baldwin Park city council fired him, after 49 days, for refusing to perform “favors” for them, and complaining about alleged excessive billing by the city attorney.
Somehow, he managed to return to IPD, almost immediately, but in a lesser role. He was allowed to skip over candidates in line to become Lieutenant, which almost drew a lawsuit from the union. Salcedo remains on the payroll despite receiving a multi-million dollar settlement for those 49 days of work.
In 2018, the City had to fire dozens of employees who came back to work after retiring.
Mayor Butts continues to abuse his authority, and taxpayer resources, while using IPD has his personal enforcement team.
McDade has filed a lawsuit alleging the mayor is stalking her, and appears to be continuing the disturbing pattern. Treasurer Wanda Brown alleges the mayor had officers following her and her staff after she spoke out about the City’s finances. Other members of the community, particularly those most vocal about his behavior, also make the same claims of Butts using IPD to intimidate them.
Ironically, the council cancelled this week’s city council meeting, but not before Butts summoned another business owner to his office, demanding answers about McDade’s “involvement” in the grand opening.
Meanwhile, IPD can’t do their job because of Butts’ continued interference and threats.
