The city of Inglewood is busying themselves clearing a path along Century Blvd that stretches from Prairie to Inglewood Ave. Multiple businesses along the route were scheduled for a hearing on a final order of condemnation September 22, although some entities appear to have settled.
What businesses are on the chopping block, for either the Clippers arena and/or parking?
- A&Z Oil @ 1244 S. Inglewood Ave.
- Mongolian BBQ, Metro PCS commercial lot @ 4410 W. Century Blvd.
- LA Dry Cleaner’s @ 4421 W. Century Blvd.
- private home @ 4621 W. Century Blvd.
- Commercial lot @ 10000 Grevillea Ave.
- CVS @ 4345 W. Century Blvd.
- Church’s Chicken @ 10004 S. Prairie Ave.
2UrbanGirls spoke with attorney Charles Cummings, who is representing the franchise owner of Church’s Chicken in their case against the City.

“We are seeking two things from the City,” explained Cummings. “With these types of proceedings, the government is required to pay for loss of business goodwill, meaning when you run a business for a really long time, you have built up an established customer base that goes to you because of the time you have been open.”

“Secondly, we are seeking payment for improvements pertaining to realty, as the equipment can’t be moved out of the building,” said Cummings. “Think of it like the stove and a built in fridge or freezer.”

Cummings further explained the bigger fight is between the owner of the property, against the City, who are fighting the “right to take”.
Did you think the city of Inglewood that you know and love, and have lived in for decades, would go through such a remarkable transformation because you signed a petition to bring the NFL back to Los Angeles?

I concur with a previous commenter that noted that with big eminent domain projects, land and property confiscated for sound abatement, parking or other alleged project related purposes, often doesn’t end up being used for those purposes, but instead gets sold to other businesses for unreated commercial projects. This happened when houses were cleared out to put in the 105 freeway. Houses near the airport were confiscated, and not coincidentally, when the dust settled, some of that prime land was sold to companies who benefit from being close to the airport. In the case of the stadium and arena, ill bet that smaller businesses and homes will be confiscated, supposedly for parking or whatever (and as the other commentor rightly noted, why would the stadium and arena need parking west of prairie when there are acres of land on the stadium site and the clipper site could easily build parking structures) and their land will be sold to upscale or support businesses that can benefit from being close to those projects. I also think that its important to note that at least some of those owners who have already “settled” and have sold their land, no doubt did so because they were intimidated by the idea that they really had no choice, and thats what James Butts has brought to Inglewood, a city where the rich use unethical government officials to take what they want.
For the lack of knowledge Inglewood residents have perished/no leadership/politically non astute/passive/ IS BUTTS THE GREAM REAMPER LIKE MC CONELL KY?
Complain enough about traffic and they will eventually get rid of all of those businesses to make an extra lane or two for traffic. Nevermind the fact that there is enough land to build parking structures at the stadium site, but they’d rather displace us commoners so that they can build housing for Inglewood’s version of Elysium. Are the businesses listed the only ones affected? I would hate for that restaurant that sells pupusas to go.
I was told to think of it like DTLA when they built the staples center. A lot of buildings were torn down to create parking around the arena. Now those parking lots have high rise buildings on them. These properties are the first but if you notice there’s a lot in between these locations that could be next.
They can’t build high rises there because of the airport. There’s a way around it but it takes years for the FAA to approve, and it’s never for residential high rises. It took Tesla a few years to get permission to build to the employee parking structure because for the airport. They wanted to make it two floors higher but that was turned down.
Okay we know Kimberly does’t get out much …at least not westerly,
The south runway is between Imperial Hwy and Century Blvd. Century ends lining up with the north roadway of the central terminal area.
If you go west on Century Blvd. past La Cienega (much closer to the airport ) you will notice tall hotels on both side of the street up to the Westin on the south (more gates are proposed to be added to the south side east (closer to us) of Sepulveda.
While the new Tesla parking lot is not on the approach path to the Jack Northrop Airfield, there is a new residential high rise being built right across the railroad track..
Oh my God are you so naive that you believe this is a result of complaining about traffic!!!
No sweets the traffic is the result of unmitigated greed ! And more pollution will be the result.
The potential of all four venues YouTube 5heTre, Forum, Kroenke Stadium, Ballmer Arena, the HIGH END shopping stores, and Gambling patrons using public transit to carry home their purchases or winnings is delusion at best !
The property will be acquired and you can expect to see high rise mixed use all the way to the city line.
Of course there is a plan to rid this community of any and all businesses and residents that do not fit with the Kroenke/Ballmer plan and since they bought the city council campaigns why on earth would any non- chain non-high-rise entity be spared ?
Unfortunately there are those who are foolish enough to believe if they cozy up to the mayor he will spare them … yep they are gone once they are no longer needed for his flashy photos.
Remember the Gumbo guy saying it would be good for his business -gone.
Remember Casa Rios celebrating the grand opening yah right ! check the map that will be the monorail station.
Grab a clue folks this man and his team needs to be stopped !
It is time to stop blaming the people who told you the Mayor and Council didn’t care about us and face the reality they are working for Kroenke and Ballmer against us
I Keep telling folks this .
This is about Inglewood being a destination ” entertainment’ center.
This shit has nothing to do with Olympics.
This is about High end Hotels
High end restaurants.
Nothing that isn’t consistent with that vision will remain.
