Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. penned a “dear resident” letter September 15 to clear up “erroneous” reports related to zoning changes for new Transit Oriented Developments (TOD) planned for multiple areas in the city. By the mayor’s own admission, the city has failed to properly educate residents on proposed changes occuring in the City.
Residents received a vague public hearing notice related to an August 24 special Planning Commission meeting to discuss zoning changes related to TOD projects near Manchester and LaCienega and Crenshaw and Imperial.
Because of the city’s failure to properly adequately alert residents of what those changes would entail, residents were left on their own to decipher what it meant.
According to Butts he “directed Metro to remove single family homes” from the TOD plan area, without offering any proof of how and when that happened.
Our guess is single family homes were removed because Governor Gavin Newsom signed, what his office called “historic legislation”, SB 9 and SB 10 into law, therefore, zoning changing are out of the city’s hands to increase density to address the housing crisis.
Comment ‘aye’ if you believe the mayor sent out this letter to calm down the residents to encourage a “yes” vote to raise certain taxes in November?
Mark your calendars: Inglewood Planning Commission meeting will be held October 6 @ 7pm. Residents can assemble in the Lecture Hall at the Main Library across from City Hall.scan0044
