Inglewood City Clerk getting a raise despite decrease in duties

Inglewood treasurer Wanda Brown has filed a $10 million lawsuit against the City alleging she was retaliated against for speaking out against the condition of the city’s finances.  As a result her duties were reduced and her once nearly $8,000 salary was reduced to a paltry $1404 per month.  Newly elected City Clerk Aisha Thompson, who has been on the job all of perhaps eight months, is scheduled to get a salary increase on the August 24 city council agenda, despite a decrease in duties.

Thompson was the long-time deputy of Yvonne Horton, who was happy to be elected in November 2020 as Horton’s successor.  She has assumed the role of “director” of the city clerk’s office, which has her covered under the executive employees union, and makes her the highest earner of the Inglewood city council.

On the August 24 council agenda she is scheduled to have her monthly salary increase from $8,694 per month, to $9,604 per month, right in time for the city’s November 2, 2021 special election.

“I went from eating beans and rice to Mastro’s,” said Aisha Thompson during her swearing in ceremony for city clerk.

While Horton served as City Clerk, she made the crucial decision to open her office, to Melvin Roberts, to accept his petition to circulate for the return of the NFL to the Los Angeles market.  The date the petition was date stamped as received by the clerk’s office ws during the annual two week holiday closure the last two weeks of the calendar year.

Horton played a huge role in the election of Thompson by placing her name on official city documents, months prior to the November 2020 election, to increase name recognition of registered voters.  Former Inglewood Councilman Jerome Horton pumped close to $20,000 into the campaign coffers of Thompson as well.

A review of the existing salary ordinance shows that she is receiving a raise, despite the reduction in her duties.

What a slap in the face to Wanda Brown, and the Inglewood Police Department (IPD) who ratified an employment agreement where they are not scheduled to receive through their current contract ending in 2022.  The only additional pay they can earn is merit pay, based on a satisfactory annual evaluation or overtime worked at SoFi Stadium.

The City has declared a fiscal emergency, and has expended an additional $15 million towards outside police services, and faces multiple lawsuits related to Mayor Butts reckless behavior.

It is well known throughout City Hall, and confirmed by staff in the clerk’s office, that Thompson does not perform most of the duties related to the position, they are done by another city hall employee.

How and WHY are we increasing the city clerk’s salary, while simultaneously denying the city treasurer and police department theirs?

    Why..? Did you ask why.?
Anyone who wants to give a document to the city clerk which is the official office designated for receiving documents must wait outside the building until someone in the clerk’s office to gets permission from the 9th floor to receive the documents!!!!

Essentially this City Clerk is saying I will do as told by the Mayor despite knowing my responsibility as an elected official because Mr Butts will give me more money if I only accept correspondence he likes .

This was the person who refused to provide a copy of the wording of the Stadium petition to the public as provided by law BEFORE it was voted to be destroyed by the City Council claiming it had ALREADY BEEN destroyed.

She and Ms Horton have done their best to disregard the of Freedom of information Act and delaying delivery of those documents until it was too late to use the information needed……

THIS IS A SLAP IN THE FACE TO :
    Every employee
    Every resident
Everyone who ever does any business with City Hall

Anyone willing to bet it will not be as always a 5-0 vote ….

$1,300.00 per month MORE As if living off $8,694.00 a month was making her live off bread and water. NO WONDER THEY WANT TO TAX US MORE
