California State Auditor Elaine Howle identified the city of Compton as the most fiscally challenged city in the state of California in November 2020. This was due in part to the city’s failure to provide complete financial statements for any of the three years they examined.
Related: Compton Controller resigns citing bullying and harassment
Former city controller Rafaela King abruptly resigned in June 2020 citing “bullying and harassment” and claimed the city’s auditors, Eadie + Payne, were price gouging the city related to a nearly $800,000 contract to audit the city’s books.
In nearby city of Inglewood, former budget and accounting manager spoke of auditors hired by Inglewood allegedly “overbilling” the city due to their being the only firm to provide an audit that suited the city’s needs.
This could explain the former mayor’s decision to not run for re-election, the former treasurer disclosing the city has an additional $17 million, and the urgency to approve the city manager’s contract renewal.
Perhaps it’s time for an executive team who knows what they’re doing.

They all are Corrupt!
Like the state audit of the Metropolitan Water District that Gloria Gray runs? About time.
The Bully Crew spent most of their time harassing employees. This was to divert the attention from their incompetence and corrupt management of the tax payers dollars. Get rid of the whole lot of them!
The current controller comes from the unethical auditing firm who recommended that the former controller who questioned their adits be fired. Now she and two of her firms employees are working for the city of Compton! Love them Compton Retirement benefits. Another perk she works from her Beverly Hills home most of the time.
