Compton recount affirms election results

Compton council candidate Andre Spicer raised the money needed to perform a recount of ballots cast in the city’s June 1 General Election.

A “who’s who” of political royalty were on hand to watch the ballots recount at the Norwalk office of the Los Angles County Registrar-Recorder’s Office.

Observers found it odd that former Sen. Roderick “Rod” Wright was present on behalf of Spicer.

Councilman Isaac Galvan arrived with the former mayor’s of Carson and Compton.

Spicer believed the recount was a longshot, and didn’t expect the outcome to change.

“The actual count did not change, but we really needed to see the envelopes as the story of voter fraud is there,” Spicer wrote in a social media post to his supporters.  “We were able to retrieve the “whistleblower” envelope and much more, so we will see what else develops.”

Observers also noted the ballots were not numbered, making it difficult to trace ballots back to the envelopes they were mailed in.

Voter fraud allegations surfaced when two unnamed women came forward, claiming to have worked on behalf of former candidate Jace Dawson and Galvan.  They alleged they registered to vote at Dawson’s address, despite living outside of the city limits.

The new council will be sworn in July 1, in accordance with the city charter and the new council will hold their first council meeting July 6, where they are expected to vote on whether to appoint or hold a special election to fill the vacancy in District 4, when Councilwoman Emma Sharif is sworn is as the city’s next mayor.
