Embattled CA Governor Gavin Newsom has launched his campaign to thwart recall efforts by Republicans. Black community leaders are eager to support him because he is dangling a U.S. Senate seat to ensure Black female legislators stand by his side.
Black women were instrumental in getting President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris elected. It was pressure from Black women that hoisted Harris onto Biden’s ticket. Stacy Abrams delivered the state of Georgia to the Biden Administration to ensure Harris always had the deciding vote in the Senate, but Abrams wasn’t named a member of Biden’s cabinet.
With Harris’ CA Senate seat vacant, Newsom faced growing pressure to appoint a Black woman to her seat. He instead chose Alex Padilla. Now he claims he will appoint a Black woman to the seat currently held by Diane Feinstein, should she retire early.
“We have multiple names in mind and the answer is yes,” Newsom had said during an interview on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” Monday when asked if he would name a Black woman to the seat if given the chance.
Feinstein’s office promptly responded.
“The senator has no plans to step down,” Tom Mentzer, her spokesman, said in an email.
Black women don’t fall for the banana in the tailpipe. Let Gavin fight his own battles.

Rather insulting of him isn’t it……shouldn’t he have said in my efforts to find the best qualified person for any vacancies as they present themselves I am confident there will be several women of many ethnicities to consider. That he suggests that it is okay to discuss appointing a black woman (or anyone else ) to an unopened position held by a woman who has not announced her intent to retire is an insult !!!!!! Apparently he believes women are just his chessboard pawns disposable and easily replaceable. This smacks of a reason to recall him all by itself. Diane Feinstein was elected by the voters, who does he think he is to declare the people were wrong ?!
