The city of Inglewood has recorded its third homicide of 2021 in the early morning of February 15. Residents awoke to a post on social media site NextDoor alerting residents that someone was shot to death in front the Faith Lutheran Church on 85th Street.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiners office has identified the victim as 51-year-old Erick Shilling, an Inglewood resident.
According to Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr., Inglewood Police department personnel responded to a shooting victim call at 3:42am. They arrived at 3320 W. 85th Street and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso and unresponsive. Mr. Shilling was pronounced dead at 3:55am.
In November 2019, the Inglewood city council approved the location to be developed into a 65 unit senior housing development.
On January 5, Andrew Summerfield, 20, was gunned down in Darby Park and on January 16, Quintez Reeves, 31, was gunned down near a bus stop on Crenshaw Blvd. near Century.
Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. is adamant the city is safe and Police Chief Mark Fronterotta has responded by making police personnel more visible with increased patrols throughout the city.
District 1 Councilman George Dotson is the area representative where murders #1 and #3 have taken place and he has made no public comments on the uptick in crime. Dotson is the eldest member of the city council, and appears to be in declining health. His announcements to residents typically are reminders to wear a mask and announcing his paper shredding events.
He is up for re-election in 2022.

It is absolutely time to replace Dotson; he is useless. He is not concerned with the issues of the residents in his assigned district. He should have followed-up with communications to the residents of his district. There is never any communication, except for that canned email that overpaid assistant of his sends out. Warren Lane school is in serious jeopardy of being closed. This is the only elementary school in district 1 and not one word from him. And, we accept this type of behavior? No, we should not! He needs to be accountable for his non-actions and he needs to be replaced. Just think how much each of us homeowners are paying into the pension fund for the City of Inglewood employees (check your property tax bill and you will see you pay handsomely into their fund) and this is the type of assistance we receive. If Dotson is ill, he should step down and lets get an interim council person in until the term ends. We need representation from a council person who can handle the job. Time is of the essence, we need help and answers now. Time for Dotson to go.
I will love you forever..
No matter one’s complexion, VOTERS had best wake the hell up to reality –
Even during the most turbulent periods in late 60’s into the mid 70’s, the Los Angeles city schools with some of the roughest reputations – Washington, Dorsey, Manuel Arts, Centennial – NEVER had a”mass shooting” on any of their campuses.
No, the big brains in charge of the LA schools are cutting the police presence on all campuses – Watch!
By counting DORSEY HS among the other city schools with the roughest reputations in the “late 60’s into the mid-70’s” shows you have no personal knowledge, but are making an assumption based on Dorsey’s location. I attended and graduated from Dorsey exactly in the mid-70’s. It was hardly rough. The demographic was approximately 55% Black 40% Asian (mostly Japanese-American) and 5% Other. That’s a very loose estimate because it felt more like 50% Black & 50 %Asian-American, to me. In the mid-60’s to early 70’s, there were still white kids attending the school. Dorsey was the school for all the kids who lived in Baldwin Hills. Parents didn’t need to put theirs kids in private school unless they wanted them to go to Catholic school. There were no charter schools and LAUSD offered the best education.
So please, stop perpetuating this stereotype of Dorsey in the 60’s to mid-70’s due to its location. Dorsey became “rough “ a decade later in the 80’s when gangs & drugs started to take over.
AGREE FOLKS WITHOUT FACTS GET THINGS TWISTED
Rest In Peace ♥️
