Former State Director of Kamala Harris’ U.S. Senate office has formally announced her campaign for Assembly District 54.
“Excited to announce today that I’m running for State Assembly in California’s 54th District!” exclaimed Heather Hutt on her official social media site.
The 54th District covers Culver City, Ladera, Leimert Park, Windsor Hills, and West Los Angeles.
“I grew up [here]. Leimert Park was the park that I was in as a little girl. This is my neighborhood. Being in this community, I understand what’s important, what leadership looks like and what the changes and challenges are. When you love where you are and you love your community you want to share that love in your work as well as your [personal life].”
In her role as state director, Hutt managed Harris’ staff in all five her California offices: Sacramento, San Francisco, Fresno, San Diego and Los Angeles. She made sure staff in each office amplified Harris’ priorities as well as her record. She had a close relationship with the Washington DC office in different capacities.
“I let them know what was actually happening in our state so they can sometimes match it to legislation or at least understand what the current events are so that the boss was abreast of what’s important to her constituents in California,” said Hutt.
Hutt has worked on state issues in the California State Legislature as district director for retired Sen. Isadore Hall III, and he enthusiastically supports her campaign for Assembly.
“Heather is like family to me and she’s worked alongside me for nearly a decade fighting for working people and marginalized communities,” said Hall. “I’ve witnessed firsthand her heart, grit and unyielding passion for lifting up communities. Heather has my enthusiastic endorsement and I plan to do everything I can to ensure she wins this race.”
