Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has promoted a second African-American deputy to lead a station that primarily serves Black and Latino residents. Captain Damon A. Jones has been selected to lead the Carson Sheriff’s station as of January 24.
“Captain Jones comes to his new position with strong relationships and great knowledge of the community,” said a city of Carson press release.
Jones has worked in various areas of the Sheriff’s department including the newly created Superspreader Task Force. He also served as a Sergeant in the Carson station giving him critical knowledge of the area.
“Safety and security are the most important service that government must provide to residents. I, along with every member of the City Council welcome Captain Damon Jones to spearhead the Carson Sheriff Station and look forward to working with him to keep our community safe,” said Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes.
Cpt. Jones is a 25-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and a former deputy and sergeant at the Carson sheriff’s station, will now lead the station that also serves the unincorporated communities of Harbor City, Harbor Gateway and East Rancho Dominguez.
Sheriff Villanueva previously promoted Captain LaTonya Clark, to lead the Compton Sheriff Station, in early 2020. She is the second Black woman to lead the Compton station since the 2003 appointment of Lieutenant Diane Walker under former Sheriff Lee Baca.

If service and security are your main priority why do we have to live to people living in RVs, vans and trucks on our block. I live on Vermont avenue between Torrance Bl and Del Amo St. I call almost every week to have someone come out to our street to tag the RVs vans and trucks that have lived on our street for months. We live in the unincorporated area of Torrance 90502. We are under the jurisdiction of the Carson Sheriff Station. Sometimes a deputy or parking enforcement person will come out but most times not. The people living in these vehicles are loud, they throw trash everywhere and they urinate in the grass next to the sidewalk. We are not renters. We are homeowners. We pay taxes. We have no idea how dangerous these dwellers are. Our property will lose value if this problem is not corrected.
Also, why can’t we get rid of all of the RVs on Del Amo street? They are right there in front of the County
Building before you get to the 110 freeway. They Have peed on the walls so often the walls are black and there is trash everywhere. No one seems to care about the people that live in zip 90502.
