The Faith Community Coalition is working with churches and faith institutions in South Los Angeles to highlight a program that provides high-speed internet access through a partnership with the SoLa I CAN Foundation.
With 47% of South LA households who have no stable internet access, the program will offer free WIFI to students for 1000 days, which equates to three years.
“The South Los Angeles Community has been trapped on the wrong side of the digital divide for too long. For many residents, their only option for internet access has been via cell phone,” said Pastor Cager. “By proving 1,000 days of free high-speed internet to 1,000 needy families, the SoLa I CAN Foundation is building a bridge across that divide and will change thousands of lives. The Faith Community Coalition is blessed to be a part of building that bridge!”
The program also has support from Los Angeles Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson who represents the city’s 8th District.
“Racial equity begins with education, and every child deserves equal access to school,” said Harris-Dawson.
Families are eligible who meet the minimum requirements of either receiving free lunch from school and/or recipients of SNAP.
