Inglewood Treasurer Wanda Brown has submitted her most recent report thanking residents to electing her to her ninth term in office. Brown also shares that Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. has locked her out of City Hall for allegedly not submitting COVID-19 test results to the city, while there is no way for the public to determine if Butts is following his own rule and submitting tests. Public records requests submitted to newly elected City Clerk Aisha Thompson have continued to be ignored as they were under her predecessor Yvonne Horton.
Brown shares with the public that the city’s debt continues to be a point of contention between the city’s various bargaining units and the mayor, despite a special payroll run in October, and $10 million out of the general fund to his campaign donor Thomas Safran of Thomas Safran & Associates.
To avoid layoffs, the city has created the Housing Protection department where select city staff are placed in “transitional” positions while the department quietly makes adjustments to the fee schedule enacted under the city’s rent control ordinance. Former and current employees are alleged to be hand selected by the departments Director Yakema Decatur. Labeled as transitional positions the Human Resources department apparently isn’t required to post the positions for open recruitment. Landlords can expect to see fees associated with “registering” their dwellings increase in March 2021 to ensure no city. employee is laid off due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
