Dear 2UrbanGirls,
I wanted to thank you and the Wave Newspaper for shedding light on the dysfunction happening @ IUSD. Â Do residents even know there are less than 8,000 students enrolled across 15 school sites?
Before I go on I wanted to apologize to you because although I had every intention to write this letter weeks ago, I couldn’t find the appropriate or correct words to express a fair and balanced approach to the alleged racist atmosphere that exists @ IUSD.
But before I go on , please let me express to you the reason I needed to thank the Wave newspaper as well as you because had the Wave newspaper not ran your story, about the systemic racism that permeates IUSD, County appointed Superintendent, Dr Erika Torres, would have simply dismissed these as ” allegations” and/or rumors, started on a ” blog”.
With that being said, let me first begin to address my concerns and hopefully explain why Dr. Torres initial reaction as allegations on a blog is dangerous as there is more than sufficient proof to corroborate these allegations. In fact what Dr. Torres failed to mention that complaints were levied not only by staff and parents but IUSD conducted it’s own outside investigation and deemed the allegations had merit and in fact placed the Principal in question on ” paid” administrative leave which seemed to serve no purpose other than a paid vacation due to the Covid-19 pandemic and to my understanding no campuses were operating in normal function.
To be quite honest in this day and age I don’t know how referring to African American employees as Monkeys and the “N” Word isn’t grounds for immediate termination but hey that’s a story for another time. Should Dr. Torres and the school board decides to address the community directly as opposed to creating a partnership with USC to teach about ” Slavery.
I must admit nothing says accountability more than prostituting the trauma of ” slavery” to deflect from being held accountable for poor decisions.
I mean where’s the accountability? Where is the uproar and leadership?
Where is the same illusion of disgust that emerged when former State Superintendent Dr.Brann implied he didn’t feel safe in Inglewood , where even Inglewood Mayor James Butts demanded a public apology?
Where are the words of frustration and or concern from anyone of the five black school board members that supposed to look like us and represent us , or can we attribute their silence to the old adage ” all skinfolks aint your kinfolk”
Where is Dr. D’artagnan Scorza or I like saying, paging Dr. Scorza? Isn’t his full time job as a social justice crusader screams for attention to this matter?
Or his outrage for sale to the highest bidder? Â Where is school Board Trustee , Dionne Faulk?
Has she already checked out as she looks to parlay her ” advisory ” seat to a $ 70,000 job onto the Inglewood City Council?
I don’t know but something’s amiss @ IUSD and it’s becoming more apparent as the late Tupac Shakur would say ” IUSD isn’t personal. It’s strictly business”
