Former Baldwin Park Police Chief Mike Taylor has entered the race for Rialto City Council. Taylor is currently serving on the West Valley Water District Board and has qualified to run on the November ballot.
“I’m running for city council because of the current COVID-19 crisis, and how it has impacted our community,” said Taylor. “It’s effects have made it abundantly obvious that steady leadership is needed to steward us through these difficult times.”
Taylor has resided in the city of Rialto for the last 32 years. After serving three decades in the Baldwin Park Police Department, he was promoted to Chief in 2013.
During his tenure there, Dr. Taylor has been responsible for policy development, strategic planning and fiscal management, in addition to overseeing day-to-day operations of the Department. His term as chief expires at the end of 2018.
He holds a Doctorate in Leadership for Educational Justice with an emphasis on executive leadership policies, principles and practices from the University of Redlands, and a Master’s in Political Science National Security Studies with an emphasis on U.S. foreign and domestic policy, national security concerns and terrorism from California State University, San Bernardino.
He is relying on his experience to enhance Rialto’s post COVID-19 future.
“As a retired Chief of Police and former interim City Manager, I understand the importance of public safety, responsible community development and fiscal accountability,” said Taylor.

I will be voting for the individuals who have the best qualifications and experience to move Rialto in a better direction. I’m Caucasian and have resided in Rialto for over 15 years. All people in Rialto deserve the best Council members, regardless of the color of their skin.
Well—in these times I’d like to see more people of color or Hispanics running for city council—too many old white men in these offices. Get someone to represent the people of Rialto.
I’m Hispanic and I have met some rotten people of color in my lifetime. It is not just old white men. Just vote for the best person. Skin color does not define what is in the heart of the person running for office
Thank you , Vote For Quality not Color ! ????
Currently there are three Hispanic males and one Caucasian male on the council, and one African-American female mayor. Racially it seems pretty diverse. I don’t understand your remark about old white men.
