House democrats have claimed a small victory in getting Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to suspend actions taken to remove much needed equipment from U.S. Post Offices across the nation. Before this announcement was made public, representative for South Central communities came together to speak out on the potential loss of jobs that delaying mail delivery would cause.
Congressmembers Maxine Waters (CA-43), Nanette Barragan (CA-44) and Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) assembled at one of the Los Angeles area Post Office processing centers at 7101 Central Ave. which is located in Gomez’s district.
The midday media advisory of the conference came on the heels of an article posted earlier in the day by 2UrbanGirls inquiring on why Ms. Waters didn’t monitor the situation prior to it reaching a level of national concern.

We were critical of the assertion that collection boxes have being reduced around the nation, as revenue and usage declined, however, many pointed out that the collection box removal wasn’t as imperative as the loss of the mail sorting machinery.
“Residents in Inglewood reported not receiving mail in 4-5 days,” said Waters. This author lives in Inglewood and I receive mail everyday.
Because of the nationwide outcry of the reported delays of mail collection and delivery, and the alleged correlation between the appearance of “sabotage” of the vote by mail process for the upcoming Presidential election, Postmaster DeJoy agreed to suspend his efforts to remove necessary equipment for employees to perform their duties.

“To avoid even the appearance of any impact on election mail, I am suspending these initiatives until after the election is concluded,” said DeJoy.
Immediately following the announcement, it was reported that a Los Angeles County resident was being charged with voter fraud, having voted on behalf of his dead mother, in the last three elections.

It was good to see the cohesiveness between the offices of the Congressmembers who continue to fight for jobs and preservation of the timely collection and distribution of mail. Our mailboxes are typically littered with advertisements and campaign litter and at times mail belonging to the wrong person.
Congresswomen Barragan and Waters have been a regular dynamic duo fighting for justice in Compton and South Central, as their districts butt against each other. Ironically, Rep. Karen Bass (CA-37) is missing from the party.
Bass and Waters districts are contiguous, however, you never see the two of them come together on anything affecting their combined districts, most notably the hoopla surrounding the corner of Manchester and Vermont.

Congresswoman Nanette Barragan is the best thing for the less fortunate.
We the community appreciate you, keep up the fight.
Congressman John Lewis was right by endorsing you; he would be very proud of you!
