Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts has yet to publicly acknowledge the death of an iron worker at the multi-billion dollar SoFi stadium project. Mayor Butts was adamant he wanted construction to continue despite the global COVID-19 pandemic that 667 Inglewood residents have tested positive for.
On June 4th the Los Angeles Times reported that an additional 3 members of the construction team contracted the deadly virus bringing the total to 12.

2UrbanGirls has shown that social distancing is all but a fairytale at the site as evidenced by photos taken around the construction site.
The construction workers have shared with reporters they are under pressure to get the stadium open on time which has resulted in multiple safety issues befalling the Turner AECOM Hunt joint venture.

“This is an extremely sad day. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues at this extremely difficult time. We work extremely hard to prevent days like this and we have halted all construction activity. Counseling services will be made available to all workers on site to support them in the difficult days and weeks ahead.”
The Los Angeles Times reported that the worker fell at least 60 feet while working on the roof in the southeast corner of the stadium near one of the massive concrete columns that support the structure.
CalOSHA has shut down the site for investigative purposes. It is unknown if the worker’s death will present another opening day delay that is currently scheduled for August 14 in a preseason NFL game between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints.
At one point Mayor Butts was concerned about the safety’s structure as an earthquake rattled Inglewood a while back and during the city council meeting he shared with the public he got up and drove past the stadium to see if there were any damage.

Terrible. Construction going on at all hours and there were bound to be lapses in safety. My condolences to his family.
This early morning there was no activity at all. Place was probably waiting for investigation but the stadium was all lit. Way too bright lights. Can’t imagine how nearby residents can tolerate. At least they could dim them in wake of this tragedy.
Very sad.
My condolences to the family of the victim. Too many issues at that stadium. Unfortunately.. Butts and his crew are so complacent that nothing will be done to double check the safety of this stadium. I foresee a terrible collapse/lawsuit.
