Dear 2UrbanGirls,
First we want to thank you for alerting the community to the unscrupulous activities involving Asm. Autumn Burke, D’artagnan Scorza and Dionne Faulk and the vacant land behind Morningside/Woodworth/Monroe schools. The article you wrote detailed how Inglewood Unified County Administrator Erika Torres was all but ready to lease the land, for pennies, to one of Burke’s campaign donors.
If this deal were on the up and up it wouldn’t have been pulled from the June 12th agenda. We also don’t understand why the district wasn’t going to walk away with enough money to pay off the entire loan balance and go back to local control.
Inglewood Unified to raze Inglewood High School, build new one as part of $148-million overhaul
A few years ago the public was told Inglewood and Morningside High Schools would be combined once they rebuilt Inglewood High but there wasn’t enough money to do that. The district just closed Warren Lane, promptly after the school year ended, and if you drive by Morningside High School now, you might see a couple of people tinkering around the front exterior where they ripped out the windows. How long does it take to repair?
Steve Ballmer just got approval to not only build a basketball area, but an entire complex that will also host a training facility and medical center for the players.
Was this “land grab” on Morningside actually for the Los Angeles Rams/Charges to have a new practice facility for their teams? The site is less than two blocks from SoFi Stadium and would be an obvious location for them to end up.
Mayor Butts met up with some of the residents at a community discussion on Warren Lane, on June 12th, where he mentioned that Dr. Scorza received a $250,000 donation to his non-profit for working with the owners of the Forum to go against the Clippers project.
“You guys are here at city hall and you should be at the school board meetings taking on your school board president,” Mayor Butts.
All three of these people are up for re-election and they need to let us parents know what the hell is going on before we vote them out of their seats. Enough is enough.

Thank you for this letter. We have to remain aware of what is happening with our very small city, especially the schools.
