Inglewood City Council resumes regular city council meetings May 5th without discussing the mid-year budget numbers for FY 2019-2020. Although Inglewood Mayor James Butts assured employees there would be no layoffs during this fiscal year, he did acknowledge 2020-2021 would need to be revisited which could explain why the city’s Finance Department has delayed releasing where the city’s finances are to date as Q2 ended March 31.
Nearby city of Santa Monica saw former City Manager Rick Cole abruptly resign with the pending revenue shortfall. The interim city manager is asking to layoff 337 of the city’s 2,300 employees. Santa Monica also carries $448 million in unfunded pension liabilities. Will Inglewood retain its full workforce next fiscal year?
Meanwhile, Inglewood keeps chugging along with the city’s business.
A planned Public Hearing for the city’s proposed short-term rental ordinance has been continued to May 19th. Last year Airbnb became a member of the Inglewood Airport Area Chamber of Commerce (IAACC) as an act of goodwill.
The Public Works department is requesting a public hearing be set to establish a citywide permit parkings district program that exempts District 2.
Eric Johnson dba L.A. Business Printing will receive a nearly $100,000 contract extension for printing the city’s community information guide.
The city will approve the use of asset forfeiture funds to update the city’s 9-1-1 system but the accompanying staff report has yet to go through legal, budget and finance review nor has it been signed by the chief of police or city manager.

The city will go back to Murphy’s Bowl LLC to request $233,000 for appraisal services for the proposed Clippers arena. Curtis-Rosenthal Inc. will appraise 52 city-owned parcels, 13 Successor-agency owned parcels, and 10 privately-owned parcels. The city’s staff reported presented by Economic and Community Development Director Chris Jackson fails to identify the parcels.
The city also details plans for two additional digital billboards at the intersection of Century and Prairie.
