Inglewood Public Works Department proposes citywide residential parking permit program

The city of Inglewood Public Works department is proposing a citywide residential parking permit program to address the influx of cars to the SoFi Stadium and possible Clippers arena.  This program will be implemented for all council districts except for those living in Council District 2 represented by Alex Padilla.

The proposal expands on the current program that allows residents to apply for four (4) permits per household.  The current cost is $5.00 per permit.

Public Works insiders shared with 2UrbanGirls that under the proposed program will be enforced Monday through Sunday 24/7. Because Council District 2 is the furthest from the proposed arena/stadium, those residents will will not have the restrictions.  This could change if the council sees fit.

Applying for the permits will require the applicant to provide proof of residency in the form of a rental agreement, utility bill or other identifying documents which indicates the applicants physical address.

Residents can apply for a maximum of TWO permits, per household, at no cost.  Additional permits will be issued by Public Works Director/Assistant City Manager Louis Atwell on a case by case basis, for an amount to be determined by the Inglewood Parking Authority.

Visitor passes are valid for single-use and will be available either monthly, quarterly or annually according to the type of visitor parking pass being requested:  general, special event, emergency/funeral, in-home services/medical care, college study and contractors/construction workers.

The proposal will be included on the April 7th council agenda where a Public Hearing will be scheduled for residents to weigh in.

The typical household in the city of Inglewood has at least three vehicles, which won’t give applicants the opportunity to have a permit for all of their cars.  The city will realize a significant boost to parking enforcement revenue due to citations being issued to cars without a visible permit.

It is well known the city doesn’t have enough parking for residents let alone the expected 70,000 patrons who will descend upon SoFi stadium during events.  Despite the city’s best efforts to create a shuttle system and propose a “people mover” to address parking and traffic concerns, this is another instance of Inglewood residents being inconvenienced and restricted to make way for “progress”.  Also known as gentrification.
