It is becoming increasingly obvious there is dissension on the city council. This week’s regular city council meeting mirrored the last two, with Treasurer Wanda Brown having her microphone cut by Mayor James Butts, and her handing off a mysterious envelope to a staffer in Maxine Waters congressional office.
The meeting started with public comments where a woman stepped to the mic and stated she was present on behalf of Congresswoman Maxine Waters who was interested specifically in the City Treasurer’s remarks.
When it came time for Brown’s comments she explained that she called the Congresswoman to complain about her treatment by the mayor.
She proceeded to explain that the NFL stadium was coming to Inglewood regardless of who was the mayor. As the longest serving member of the council, she is aware that the initial discussions took place under former Mayor Roosevelt Dorn, who would’ve been able to helm the deal had he not got caught taking a loan from a program he voted in favor of.
Former mayor Daniel Tabor also would’ve been in line had he not have been defeated by Mayor Butts.
As Brown continued, she exceeded her time and Butts had her mic cut. She continued to speak about how the members of council stood by like deaf mutes and never come to her aid.
She then stepped from her seat and went to meet with Waters staffer and handed her a sealed manila envelope.
At the conclusion of the meeting, resident Ray Davis came up to speak after being gone for months due to health issues. Mayor Butts allowed him to speak well beyond his allotted time, unlike how he cuts others off if they go a millisecond over.
Butts closed the meeting by stating that the City Treasurer could be left off the agenda, as she speaks at the will of him, and if she continued to be disruptive, she would no longer be allowed to speak.
Congresswoman Waters and Brown have supported the mayor for his two re-election bids, however, there are persistent rumors going around the city that residents are preparing to recall the mayor for misusing public funds related to lawsuits and the money spent on his former girlfriend.
For the first time in her public remarks, Wanda Brown also eluded to mismanagement of public funds related to the NFL stadium deal.
City employees’ contracts are all set to expire this year, and many of the unions were promised raises as a direct result of the stadium opening, which doesn’t appear to be opening on time. Radio ads are running on KJLH seeking construction workers for the project. There is also a severe lack of parking.
There will be no city council meeting next week, due to the holiday, but our guess is our Congresswoman may make a special appearance to see firsthand how Brown is treated in the meetings.
2UrbanGirls is very interested in knowing about the contents in that envelope. It looks as though it was already prepared to go in the mail.
Is Wanda Brown about to blow the whistle?
Will Congresswoman Maxine Waters call for a federal investigation into the city’s federal finances?

If we continue to let this band of brothers rule our city, the residents will surely loose. Mayor Butts’ and the Council Members have made bad decisions for the future of our city – some resulting in lawsuits. We can’t afford to have a rogue group of public servants making the decisions for our city. They all need to be voted out. And we deserve to see what is in that envelope as well.
She should and residents should attend more. I think butts forgets it’s not his honey pot. As a city employee, who works for the people, he needs to answer the people. I think there’s a lot of shady stuff that’s being covered up.
