Local City Residents Opt-Out of Paying Certain Elected Officials

Local L.A. County elections are leaving some high paid officials unemployed. With city’s crying over unfunded pension liabilities, residents are opting out of paying certain elected officials. Particularly, City Clerk’s.

Many city clerk positions costs cities upwards of $100,000 per year, which could fund a meals on wheels program for the elderly, subsidize after school costs for children and implement new programs in the Parks and Recreation department.

When will the residents of Compton and Inglewood follow these courageous city’s residents who will now appoint their city clerk into the position versus continuing to pay them exorbitant salaries when the city is already paying for a Deputy City Clerk for the same job?

Several cities also saw residents vote in favor of a higher sales tax to support emergency services (police and fire): Claremont, Irwindale, Lynwood, Monrovia, San Marino, Sierra Madre, and South Pasadena.

Finally, the owners of the Terranea Resort were successful in fighting off Measure B, supported by Unite Here Local 11, which would have increased the minimum wage they pay their employees to $15 per hour.
