Compton City Council will convene at their regular city council meeting Tuesday, November 5th. They will approve budget amendments, create the framework to establish a charter review committee and award two (2) contracts to local companies tasked with cleaning the alleys and public right-of-ways.
Duncan Hauling Service and Screaming Eagle Services Inc. will both receive contracts, totaling $15,000 each, to clean the city. Both companies provide before and after photos of their work, in various social media groups, related to the city of Compton and are also responsive to residents direct requests.
Both are Black owned, local businesses, who are doing work worth far greater than $15,000. Screaming Eagle Services will provide services in District’s 1 and 2 and Duncan Hauling will perform work in District’s 3 and 4.
Councilman Isaac Galvan, who represents District 2, is very vocal at council meetings that both he and his liaison, David Blake Jr., regularly submit requests to City Manager Craig Cornwell, to clean up alleys and right-of-ways in his district, with no immediate action taking place.
The city is also pledging $10,000 to the Clean Compton Initiative program. According to the Staff Report, The Clean Compton Initiative will be a city-wide targeted program covering every council district and consisting of a collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders within the City including: Compton residents, businesses, nonprofit community-based organizations and private sector businesses and enterprises.
The city will authorize a transfer of funds, between accounts, totaling $48,000, to purchase a asphalt hotbox trailer, to address the 125 miles of streets rated “fair to very poor condition”.
Finally, City Manager Craig Cornwell has submitted a request to form a Charter review committee. The committee will be tasked with recommending Charter amendments that should be considered for placement before the City’s electorate, to the City Council for review, discussion and consideration.

I’d like to know if there is anything the residents and overtaxed people of Compton can purchase to rid ourselves and the city of politicians who are ” fair to very poor” performers in their duties. If there were such a tool that would mean that all of them would be removed. The council members and the city officials should be the ones studying the city charter because they are obviously not familiar with it, don’t respect it, and have no intentions on honoring it. WHO can clean up a city as nasty, filthy, and dirty as Harlem (ooops I mean Compton) for a nickel and expect tangible results. Just another waste of time and money to give the impression that something is being done to address a problem that they have no clue how to fix. Let’s vote THEM ALL out and give ourselves a fighting chance for a better Compton.
