2UrbanGirls received this letter to the editor in response to an article we published titled “County Supervisor Candidate Refuses to Address Gentrification Issues“.
Hello 2 Urban Girls!
Rene’ Rigard of LA County Board of Supervisors 2020 Campaign
To comment on a recent article for the LA County Board of Supervisors Race in District 2, the other candidates don’t have much to say about gentrification because their actions while in office may have fueled the very problems that we see today. And remains unresolved. Rene’ Rigard on the other hand with his background in finance and investments knows the problem and solution for LA communities affected by gentrification. There are too many career politicians trying to get this position simply for the sake of holding a seat and the priority is not about addressing the real problems that LA County communities face today. We would love to meet with you and speak about gentrification because Rene’ Rigard as Supervisor will implement plans immediately to begin having positive financial change within local communities. We look forward to hearing from you!
Best,

“gentrification” – Give me a break. Inglewood’s economy began to dry up after the violence of the Watts Riots made shoppers hesitant to come to the city; this is a fiscal reality. Prior to the late 60’s/early 70’s people came from all over the South Bay to shop in Inglewood. When the demographic in Inglewood changed – bringing with it violent crime – and while Inglewood was predominantly white, families of all complexions got the hell out of Inglewood, and businesses soon left as well, all due to violent crime. Unless Mr. Rigard’ is ready and willing to look at the REAL history of Inglewood, its future will remain in the hands of politicians just as useless as his economically illiterate predecessors.
