Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson continues to make the news as he gears up for his next election for Los Angeles County Supervisor.
While making declarations to start a municipal bank, and anti displacement zones, to stave off gentrification, his next move is to give rideshare drivers a proposed $30 per hour salary.
Citing insurance and gas costs, the hourly rate would break down to $15 per hour as the employee and the additional $15 per hour would cover the aforementioned.

The State of California implemented a new law that will all but cripple the profits earned by rideshare companies Lyft and Uber by declaring their drivers employees as opposed to contract workers.

Social media comments take issue with Wesson’s hourly proposal as government employees, in both the city and county, don’t earn as much for positions with no requirements of a college degree and/or specialty.
Are these real pledges by Councilman Wesson or ways to garner free press for his upcoming election?
