Campaign contributions go a LONG way in the city of Inglewood. One particular campaign contributor to Inglewood Mayor James Butts’ 2018 was on the receiving end of a recent city ordinance that works in their favor.

In September 2018 2UrbanGirls reported on contributions being received by the Re-Elect James Butts for Mayor 2018 campaign. One in particular came from Miami, Florida, by way of Jay Massirman.
Massirman is the driving force behind Miami City Self Storage (MCSS). The company donated $5,000 to Mayor Butts.
Mayor Butts was re-elected in November 2018 and eight months later, on July 16, 2019, a temporary moratorium was placed on self storage centers because they don’t create enough jobs.
Inglewood residents have noticed a massive construction site at the intersection of Centinela and Hyde Park, which many suspect is a self storage center.
The MCSS website shows a rendering of their new Inglewood location but doesn’t list an address. The location highlights the location, named Pacific Storage Partners, and its proximity to Beverly Hills and Culver City, who have a ban on self storage centers. According to MCSS, the bans creates significant demand for their new Inglewood facility. MCSS also sites commuters on the Metro Rail as having direct visibility to their site.
During yesterday’s regular city council meeting, the temporary Ordinance 19-15 was extended an additional ten months and 15 days to explore current market trends, land compatibility, height restrictions and size. A special use permit (SUP) will also be required.
Too bad this “research” wasn’t done before MCSS’ current structure is already near completion.
