Former Councilwoman Relies on Community Leaders, Friends and Colleagues to Fuel her Campaign
Six months into her campaign, former Councilwoman Jan Perry has raised more than $500,000, an important milestone in her bid to become the representative of the 2nd District on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Despite having been out of office for seven years, Perry was able to tap into a deep well of goodwill she has garnered from her career in public service.
“The response to our campaign proves that people are hungry for change and trust Councilwoman Perry to do what’s in the best interest of the communities of the 2nd District,” said Perry’s campaign consultant Eric Hacopian. “People contribute to Jan for the right reasons and not as part of a pay-to-play political scheme.”
Under LA County’s campaign finance rules candidates can agree to a fundraising cap of approximately $1.5 million and so far, all of the candidates in the race have agreed to the limit. The campaign solicited roughly 832 individual donations ranging from $5 – $1,500.
“I’m grateful and inspired by all of the people who have enough faith in me to donate their hard-earned money to my campaign,” said Perry. She continued, “In the course of ramping up my campaign, I’ve had the opportunity to listen to people’s concerns about their children’s future and caring for their aging parents. I will continue to listen with intention to learn and my work will be informed by the authentic perspectives people have shared with me.”
For 12 years, Jan Perry served as the Councilwoman for the City of Los Angeles’ 9th District. Upon leaving office, Perry served as the general manager of the City of Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD) from July 2013 to December 2018, where she oversaw a broad range of programs offering assistance to business, job seekers and disconnected youth. During her tenure, the department enrolled approximately 91,000 people in its training and placement programs.
Currently, Perry serves as the executive director of the Infrastructure Funding Alliance, a national initiative to meet future infrastructure, economic development, and environmental challenges. She lives in Ladera Heights with her daughter and her rescue dog Frank.
