Compton residents are reporting that Compton School Board Trustee Margie Garrett has succumbed to a lengthy undisclosed illness.
Garrett has been a member of the school board since 2009. She has been actively involved in the teachers union for close to 40 years having started her career as a teacher.
Last week 2UrbanGirls was notified Ms. Garrett had less than a week to live.
Ms. Garrett had been physically absent from the school board dais for months opting to participate via phone.
It is unclear whether the school board will appoint someone or hold a special election as regularly scheduled elections will take place this November.
Calls to school board member Micah Ali have gone unanswered.
