Compton residents took their city back!
Political newcomer Michelle Chambers soundly defeated incumbent Janna Zurita and District 4 Councilwoman Emma Sharif fended off newcomer Justin Blakely.
Residents fended off the marijuana industry who is believed to have funded the campaign of Blakely. The District 4 election didn’t garner national press like District 1, however 2UrbanGirls and Hews Media held it down for the residents.
Despite the nasty treatment Michelle Chambers endured from her boss, Asm. Mike Gipson, she achieved a historic win by taking out a name synonymous with Compton politics dating back to 1995.
So what’s next?
This election definitely puts Councilmembers Isaac Galvan and Tana McCoy on notice that their allegiance to Janna Zurita will harm them when they face re-election in 2021.
Another person on the hot seat in City Hall is City Manager Cecil Rhambo who was in concert with Councilwoman Zurita too. The city is facing a lawsuit directly related to her antics in Batiste v Compton.

Will the change residents want come to Compton? Will the streets be fixed in a more timely manner? Will Isaac Galvan and Tana McCoy continue to miss city council meetings? Who will step up and run against these two in 2021?
In the meantime, it’s a brand new day in Compton. EVERYBODY REJOICE!!!
