DLR Group has been selected to rebuild Compton High School AND a new facility at Compton College. This comes on the heels of the College being back under local control, as of last week.

DLR Group is reporting they will spend $16.6 million dollars of Measure C funds, which was a $100 million dollar facilities bond approved by voters in 2014 that funds new construction, and technology and safety upgrades campus wide. DLR Group also was selected to modernize and design new buildings for Beverly Hills High School.

“The new facility is adjacent to the Allied Health Building, which was also designed by DLR Group. Together, these two buildings form a gateway to the north end of the campus,” said DLR Group Principal Michael Tome, AIA. “Our use of complementary colors and materials, such as brick, glass, and metal panels, create a cohesive campus aesthetic.”

Residents are anxiously awaiting for the start of construction at Compton High School after holding a ground breaking ceremony in April of this year.

“We will essentially build the high school campus of the future. We will create a campus that supports our students to excel academically as well as in athletics, the arts and especially the high-tech digital arts where the jobs of the future await our graduates.”

Board Vice President Micah Ali.

According to Compton Unified insiders, $20 million has already been spent among several schools, as Measure S was approved by voters, by a mere 46 votes (yes- 2,762 and no- 2,175).

Measure S allowed Compton Unified to increase their debt up to $350 million dollars which will be paid back over the next 40 years.

A website dedicated to spreading the “good news” at Compton Unified, www.comptonschoolsuccess.org is no longer available for viewing.

The total cost of the project will be determined after programming and planning of the campus are complete. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2019 with completion scheduled in 2024.
