Thank you for highlighting some of the current facilities upgrades underway at Compton College in the June 14, 2019 story “DLR Group Penetrates City of Compton.” We would like to provide additional information about the Instructional Building No. 1 project, as well as request corrections to the story posted online, if possible.
Corrections in bold:
· The total budget for this project is $18.8 million.
· This new construction project is made possible with funds from the Compton Community College District’s 2002 Measure CC facilities bond and state capital outlay funds.
· The original agreement with DLR Group Inc. covers an amount not-to-exceed $1,508,500.00, and provides architectural and related professional services for the demolition of existing facilities, design, bidding and construction of the Instructional Building No. 1 Project. The agreement was approved by the Board of Trustees on April 21, 2015.
Instructional Building No. 1 Background Information:
· Instructional Building No. 1 is an all-new, multistory classroom building that is targeted for completion in spring 2021.
· The Compton Community College District celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony on April 16, 2019 for the Instructional Building No. 1 project, which has a total cost of $18.8 million.
· The new Instructional Building No. 1 will replace a portion of the former “Row Buildings” that were built in the 1950s.
· Instructional Building No. 1 will be the second new instructional building constructed at Compton College since the 1990s, following the opening of the Allied Health Building, which was completed in January 2016.
· The new instructional building will house nine classrooms, four computer labs, 15 offices, a lounge/breakroom, two workrooms, custodial and storage rooms, and restrooms. Smart classroom technology includes wireless access points throughout the building and portable device-charging stations for students, faculty and staff. Sustainable features incorporated into the design and functionality of Instructional Building No. 1 will include high-efficiency thermal glass with exterior louvers for shading, high-efficiency HVAC systems and controls, a cool roof, and drinking fountains with filtered-water filling stations for reusable containers.We will also contact the DLR Group to correct information in the story published online (https://www.dlrgroup.com/about/press-releases/compton-college-instructional-building-groundbreaking/).
